NEW YORK -- Obtained by the Yankees from Arizona in separate July trades, Brandon McCarthy and Martin Prado are doing their best to keep alive New Yorks slim playoff hopes. McCarthy won for the second time in six starts and Prado had three hits as the Yankees feasted on Kansas Citys bullpen in a 6-2 win Saturday after Royals starter Danny Duffy left because of an injury following his first pitch. McCarthy, dealt on July 6, allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2-3 innings with four strikeouts and a walk. He is 6-4 with a 2.87 ERA for the Yankees after going 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA in 18 starts for the Diamondbacks. "Its nice just to contribute," he said. "I spent the first half of the season being a hindrance on an organization, and thats something that doesnt sit well. So to come somewhere where theres a playoff race going on, and youre a positive influence on something thats helping the team win, thats really all you can ask for." Prado, acquired on July 31, played for the first time since straining his left hamstring Tuesday and had three hits, raising his average to .309 with the Yankees. He hit .270 with the Diamondbacks. Prados 10th multihit effort in his last 16 games fueled a rare offensive outburst by the weak-hitting Yankees, who scored as many as six runs for the first time since Aug. 29. A night earlier, a 1-0 loss in the series opener dropped them 4 1/2 games back for the ALs second wild card. "Hitting is contagious, I believe," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "It just picks your club up Its uplifting. The last 20 games, hes been unbelievable." The Yankees scored all their runs in the first five innings off Liam Hendriks and Casey Coleman, called on because of Duffys sore left shoulder. Prado doubled off Hendriks (1-1) with two outs in the first and gave his hamstring a test when he came around on Mark Teixeiras single. "I was like, please, just let me get to home plate," Prado said. Prado said he is playing at less than 100 per cent but wants to be in the lineup as the Yankees try to avoid missing the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1992 and 93. "Im trying to be smart," Prado said. "I want to be in there for my teammates." After Alex Gordons RBI bloop single tied the score in the third, the Yankees went ahead for good in the bottom half on Jacoby Ellsburys run-scoring triple and Derek Jeters sacrifice fly. Chase Headley make it 4-1 in the fourth when he scored from third after Perez overthrew third base for an error on a pickoff attempt. Carlos Beltran doubled in a run in the fifth and scored on a single by pinch-hitter Ichiro Suzuki. Mike Moustakas had a sacrifice fly in the seventh, ending McCarthys day, but Shawn Kelley, Dellin Betances and David Robertson combined for hitless relief. New York relievers have thrown 11 innings of scoreless, three-hit relief in their last four games with 14 strikeouts and no walks. "Just a good team game," McCarthy said. Kansas City (78-62) remained two games ahead of Detroit in the AL Central, but the Royals were far more concerned with the state of Duffys left shoulder. Duffy, who returned in August 2013 following elbow ligament-replacement surgery, entered the day with a 2.44 ERA, third-best in the AL. "We will send him home tomorrow and get an MRI to see what we are dealing with," Royals manager Ned Yost said. Kansas City scored four runs or fewer for the eighth straight game -- including a suspended game against Cleveland on Aug. 31 that will resume on Sept. 22. But the Royals are 4-3 in that span thanks to their pitching. "We will get a hit here and there, but not really consistent all-around," Gordon said. "We just need to get more consistent and have some big innings." TRAINERS ROOM Royals: RHP Greg Holland was missed his second straight game due to a tight right triceps. "Hopefully a day or two or three recovery and be ready to go," Yost said. ... DH Josh Willingham returned Saturday after missing six games because of a sore back and went 1 for 4. Yankees: RHP Masahiro Tanaka threw a 34-pitch bullpen session. Girardi said the club needs to see Tanaka pitch in a game this season to know whether he can pitch without surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. ... C Francisco Cervelli missed the game because of a migraine. ... OF Brett Gardner didnt play after aggravating an abdominal injury Friday. Girardi said he was questionable at best for Sunday. UP NEXT Yankees RHP Shane Greene (4-2) opposes Royals RHP Yordano Ventura (11-9) in the series finale after a pregame ceremony on Derek Jeter Day. BETANCES MOVING ON UP: Betances threw a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout, his 125th of the season. Thats the second-most in team history for a reliever, three strikeouts ahead of Rich Gossage in 1978 and five shy of Mariano Rivera in 1996. "Look at the names -- one Hall of Famer and one just waiting four more years," Girardi said. "Thats how dominant he has been this year, and how good he has been." THE M&M BOYS: McCarthy credited catcher John Ryan Murphy -- whom hed never thrown to before Saturday -- for helping him labour through a 105-pitch effort on a humid 89-degree afternoon. "Wasnt really sharp, but I felt like Murphy did a good job getting me through it and making sure we could kind of keep going deeper into the game and make those runs that they gave me early hold up," McCarthy said. "Just kind of one of those days where youre working for everything you get. Nothing really comes easy." ELLSBURY DOES IT ALL: Ellsbury went 1 for 4 and is hitting .359 with 13 RBIs in his last 18 games. Ellsbury also saved at least two hits in centre: He ran down a potential RBI extra-base hit by Josh Willingham in the gap in the fourth and caught Gordons sinking liner in the eighth. "Hes a tremendous centre fielder," Girardi said. "As good as it gets." Abdel Nader Thunder Jersey .ca. Its the first-place Blue Jays against the team closest to them in the American League East. Toronto enters the series with a four-and-a-half game lead on the Yankees. Its another chance, the second of what will be as many as six, to wave goodbye to New Yorks future Hall of Fame shortstop, Derek Jeter. Here in New York, the dulcet voice of the late, great public address announcer, Bob Sheppard, brings No. 2 to the plate. Jose Reyes is back in New York, too. He made his name over in Queens playing for the Mets. R.A. Dickey is here but wont pitch. He won the Cy Young award two seasons ago on the other side of the city. Oh, and dont forget about the Blue Jays rookies mound opponent on this Tuesday: a rookie himself, technically, the Japanese phenom Masahiro Tanaka, whos dominated the early days of his major league career like he dominated for years back home. Then there is Marcus Stroman. Its strange that this, essentially a homecoming for a young man raised in the Long Island town of Medford, is somewhat lost in the shuffle. Hes the 23-year-old who stunned general manager Alex Anthopoulos, blowing his bubble gum in the middle of his windup. The kid seems born for the spotlight, even if it will shine more brightly on others. "Im usually pretty good with dealing with things like that," Stroman said on Sunday. "I dont let anything get to me or get me overly excited or kind of get me out of my game. Im fine. Im in a good place mentally. I feel good going into it. I have kind of an off-day just to hang out with friends in the city and then it will be Game on Tuesday." Medford is a sleepy town, according to Stroman, more than an hour from New York City. Its closer to the upscale Hamptons, a drive of about 45 minutes. Medford has one high school, Patchoggue-Medford High School, which Stroman attended before moving on to college at Duke University.dddddddddddd The town will awaken this evening. Many of its inhabitants, in fact, will venture to Yankee Stadium to watch the hometown boy pitch. Stroman has purchased up to 70 tickets for close family and friends. He said hes been told by another 50 or 60 people theyve bought ducats. Hell have a throng of about 130 people here rooting him on. "Anytime you have an opportunity to pitch in front of a bunch of family and friends, its exciting," said Stroman. "I should have a lot of – a bunch of people texting me, bunch of friends from high school, college, a lot of people reaching out to me saying theyre going to be at the game so thats always exciting to pitch in front of people whove been there along the way." Stroman is 3-1 in his first year in the big leagues, 2-1 as a starter. Hes gone six innings in each of his first three starts, losing his last outing against the Twins. In two of those appearances, including the Minnesota defeat, he didnt walk a batter. He has impressed with his fastball. His breaking stuff, particularly his curveball, has baffled opposing hitters. Hes developing his changeup. Hes not developing confidence. He already has it. His coaches brag about it. "I certainly dont see him as a guy whos going to nibble and pitch around guys," said pitching coach Pete Walker. "Hes definitely on the attack. His walks have been down and I would like to think that thats going to continue with him. He certainly trusts his stuff. Theres no doubt about that." Growing up, Stroman went to Yankees games at the old stadium and saw the Mets at Shea. He didnt cheer for either team. He admired players. Like most native New Yorkers, he watched Jeter in awe. On Tuesday night, hell pitch to Jeter. He doesnt know what to expect. "I cant even tell you," said Stroman. "Im sure itll settle in once Im kind of on the mound but Im pretty sure it will be surreal." ' ' '

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Talks between the Columbus Blue Jackets and leading scorer Ryan Johansen are clearly at a contentious impasse. Johansens agent, Kurt Overhardt, said the young star left Columbus on Wednesday afternoon -- a day before the start of training camp. "(Our) talks (were) indicating that they werent going to allow the player be present at the facility," Overhardt told The Associated Press. "We just thought it was a good opportunity that he leave town and not be a distraction to his teammates." John Davidson, the teams director of hockey operations, and general manager Jarmo Kekalainen separately said "enough is enough" after what they contended were offers of $6 million for two years, $32 million for six and $46 million over eight years were refused by the restricted free agent centre. Overhardt declined to confirm those numbers, saying he never discloses contract details. But the Blue Jackets front office, clearly angry, didnt hold back. "Contracts have been extended on our behalf that are close to $50 million. I think that our group has been very fair. In fact, more than fair. And its nowhere near what they want," Davidson said, his voice rising. "Were trying to do the right thing for our organization. Were trying to be very fair to a good young man in Ryan Johansen whos got a bright future here. Were trying to do the right thing. And all were getting is no, no, no, no." The Blue Jackets have the option to match any offer presented by another NHL team since Johansen became a restricted free agent July 1. He hasnt received any so far. It is uncertain what the next step might be for the 22-year-old centre, who had a breakthrough season with 33 goals and 30 assists last year. "It has not gotten contentious on our side at all," Overhardt said. "Were professionals. Theres been no personal attacks or innuendo on our side and there wont be. Its unfortunate that people approach this differently." Now the club is proceeding as if Johansen will not be available for the first preseason game Sunday -- and possibly beyond. "For the first 10 minutes of this, it was all about Ryan Johansen," coach Todd Richards said of the teams media day. "Thats not the story. Thats a story. THE story is this group and this organization, the talented players and the young players and what the team accomplished last year." Still, Johansens absence -- Davidson said he thought the player was still in Columbus when he had already left -- was the main topic of discussion. "We were talking about (a contract) just under John Tavares, who is largely viewed as a franchise player and (a member of) Team Canada," Kekalainen said. "And Jamie Benn, the captain of the Dallas Stars, also a Team Canada player. I often try not to get into comparisons to other players, but because of the way contract negotiations go, you have to." Johansen was paid in the $800,000-$900,000 range each of the past three seasons under his entry-level contract. He was featured on the cover of the teams post-season media guide, his stick raised in celebration and a big smile on his face. Johansen was at times an enigma in his first two years with the Blue Jackets organization, scoring just 14 goals in his first 107 games. But last season with a breakthrough for him and the team. The Blue Jackets took the Pittsburgh Penguins to six games -- posting their first two playoff wins in franchise history -- before they were eliminated in the first round last spring. Should Johansen not return, the club believes it is well stocked with young talent in forwards Josh Anderson, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Marko Dano, Simon Hjalmarsson and Alexander Wennberg. "The question this year is whos going to be that young guy, who are going to be the two or three young guys, who are going to step up and have great years for us," Richards said. He had to stop at third base with a triple. Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre told Flowers it was too bad he didnt get credit for a home run. "I was like, Im not too worried about it," the catcher said. "Ill probably hit another homer. I dont know if Ill get another triple." Indeed. Flowers homered in his next at-bat, drove in three runs and combined with rookie slugger Jose Abreu, who had two hits and two RBIs, to lead the White Sox to a rain-shortened 5-3 victory over the Rangers. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning following a 57-minute delay. Flowers went 3 for 3 to raise his batting average to .252 after it dropped to .213 last month. He scored two runs as the White Sox snapped a two-game losing streak. "Tyler had a great night," Chicago manager Robin Ventura said. "The way hes been swinging the bat and doing things, you feel pretty confident when he goes up there." Abreu, who has 86 RBIs, went 2 for 3 on a day when he named the American Leagues player and rookie of the month for July. Rougned Odor had a two-run homer for Texas, which has lost four straight. Hector Noesi (6-8) bounced back from a rough outing at Detroit in his last start -- six runs in six innings -- to allow one earned run and four hits in seven innings. He was credited with a complete game because the game was called. Texas starter Nick Martinez (1-8) allowed five runs and eight hits in five-plus innings. The rookie has lost his last seven decisions. The White Sox, who trailed 3-0 early, pulled within a run on a two-run single by Abreu in the third inning and tied it in the fifth on a leadoff homer by Flowers. In the sixth, with the rain starting to fall, Dayan Viciedo led off with a single and Conor Gillaspie followed with a double too knock out Martinez.ddddddddddddWith the infield playing in, right-hander Nate Adcock came on to strike out Gordon Beckham and Alejandro De Aza, but Flowers came through with a two-out single to drive in both runs for a 5-3 Chicago lead. "We were close to getting out of that inning," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "We just didnt execute our last pitch and Flowers, who was the star of the game tonight, took advantage of it." The score was 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh when the rain intensified and the game was delayed for the second time. There was a 22-minute delay at the start even though it wasnt raining because of showers in the vicinity. AWARD WINNING Abreu, who batted .374 with six home runs and 19 RBIs in July, is the first rookie to win the player of the month award twice and fourth to be named rookie of the month three times. The Cuban slugger, who entered the game leading the majors in homers and RBIs, was asked if he is surprised by his sudden success. "I dont really like to talk about myself, but I am surprised," he said through a translator. "I wasnt expecting to have all this success, definitely not all these awards." TRAINERS ROOM Rangers: Catcher Geovany Soto (strained groin) is expected to be activated for the series with the Houston Astros starting on Friday. White Sox: De Aza left the game after the sixth inning with a bruised left knee after fouling a pitch off his leg. Right-hander Zach Putnam (shoulder inflammation) is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled when hes eligible to come off on Friday. Putnam has a 3-2 record with three saves and a 2.35 ERA and is one of the few bright spots in the bullpen this season. "Hes throwing tomorrow, so he should be available when his times up," Ventura said. ON DECK Right-hander Colby Lewis (7-8, 5.98) faces left-hander John Danks (9-6, 4.50) in the second game of the three-game set on Tuesday. ' ' '

Mercedes and Ferraris battle for F1 supremacy has ramped up at the Russian GP with both teams spending their first in-season engine development tokens. Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will race with new internal combustion engines in Sochi after the team spent three of the nine tokens they had left over from the winter.Meanwhile, Mercedes have used two of their 13 outstanding tokens on fuel system improvements, which their championship-defending works outfit and three customers teams - Williams, Force India and Manor - will all benefit from this weekend. However, none of the eight Mercedes-powered cars in question are required to fit fresh engines as the improvements come outside the sealed areas of the power unit. The world champions have also introduced a new oil from suppliers Petronas.Mercedes now have 11 tokens left to use over the remaining 17 races. Ferraris need for performance improvements are more acute with the Scuderia already over 50 points adrift of Mercedes in the Constructors Championship. The teams start to the season has been hindered by reliability problems, with Vettel and Raikkonen both registering a DNF apiece in the opening three rounds. It seems that Ferrari spent three of their engine tokens on combustion, which is half for performance and half for reliability, said Sky Sports F1s Ted Kravitz. That means Vettel is now on his third engine out of five for the season. SAN FRANCISCO - After their summer slide and a September stumble, the San Francisco Giants have that old October swagger back.Every other year, it sure seems to work for manager Bruce Bochys boys.Joe Panik scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on Aaron Barretts bases-loaded wild pitch, and the Giants edged the Washington Nationals 3-2 Tuesday night to return to the NL Championship Series. The wild-card Giants, with their cast of rookies and homegrown stars, won 3-1 in the best-of-five Division Series by also scoring on a walk and a groundout. Hunter Pence turned in a defensive gem in right field that helped hold the Nationals at bay as San Francisco won for the 11th time in its last 12 post-season games. Its been a remarkable journey. I wouldnt trade it for the world, Pence said. If it was easy, it wouldnt be as fun.San Francisco travels to St. Louis for Game 1 on Saturday night. Its a rematch of the 2012 NLCS, when the Giants rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Cardinals on the way to their second World Series championship in three years.Santiago Casilla walked Bryce Harper with two outs in the ninth, then retired Wilson Ramos on a grounder to end it. Casilla was mobbed on the mound as fireworks shot off from the centre-field scoreboard.I just talked about their will. These guys, theyre relentless, Bochy said. They were warriors on the road. We had to win at Pittsburgh, we got two in Washington.Harper splashed a tying home run into McCovey Cove in the seventh, but Washingtons season ended with three one-run losses, including that excruciating 2-1 defeat in 18 innings Saturday in Game 2.The Nationals offence never got on track, lacking the power that carried them to an NL East title and the best record in the league at 96-66.Its tender and its bitter and all of those things, but Im proud of them, rookie manager Matt Williams said.Just like a night earlier when Giants ace Madison Bumgarners one miscue cost his team the game, Barrett blew it this time. After his wild pitch snapped a 2-all tie, Barrett got set to intentionally walk Pablo Sandoval. But the right-hander sailed a toss way over the head of Ramos, who quickly retrieved the ball near the backstop. Ramos threw to Barrett covering the plate, where he tagged out a sliding Buster Posey. The call was upheld after a replay review of 1 minute, 57 seconds, denying San Francisco an insurance run.It was just one of those weird plays where they ended up getting me, Posey said.Pence produced the play of the night when he slammed his back into an archway on the right-field wall to rob Jayson Werth of extra bases in the sixth. Fans enjoying the game from the outside portwalk witnessed the grab from just behind Pence and broke into frenzied cheers. That catch he made was unreal. It really brought momentum back in our favour, Posey said. The very next inning, Pence could only watch as Harper hit a towering drive over the right-field arcade and between two boats among a large group of kayakers in the cove. It was the 104th splash homer at 15-year-old AT&T Park and third in the post-season.Hunter Strickland, the rookie reliever who gave up Harpers solo home run to the third deck in the seventh inning of Game 1 and then later said he would challenge the young slugger again if given the chance, got his opportunity Tuesday and paid for it.Harper crushed a 3-1 pitch from Strickland and appeared to give the pitcher a look as he rounded the bases. Harper celebrated in the dugout and shouted out toward the field. Its a 2-1 game, I hit the home run in the seventh, of course Im going to go crazy. I dont even know what Im doing, Harper said. They beat us, so the home run was nothing.Strickland still did enough to earn his first post-season victory. Sergio Romo pitched a perfect eighth and Casilla closed it out before the celebration began.Bumgarner, hat on backward, took off from the dugout and ran along the left-field fence and all the way around AT&T Park to lead a victory lap of Giants players slapping hands. Sandoval pumped his arms in the air and waved to fans.I think anyone thats here tonight sees what type of electric atmosphere this is, and we just love playing in front of these fans, Posey said.San Francisco fans cheered when the rival Dodgers were eliminated by St. Louis at Busch Stadium earlier Tuesday, putting the Cardinals in their fourth straight NLCS. The crowd went crazy once the Giants clinched another chance to play for the pennant, and the city is counting on the teams every-other-year trend of winning it all.San Francisco won the World Series in 2010 and again 2012. The clubs 10-game post-season winning streak, a record for NL teams, was snapped with a 4-1 loss to the Nationals on Monday. The Giants began their latest playoff run with a wild-card win last Wednesday night in Pittsburgh behind Bumgarner.Nothing surprises me anymore with this team, pitcher Ryan Vogelsong said.Vogelsong didnt allow a hit until Ian Desmonds leadoff single in the fifth. Harper followed with a sharp double down the left-field line to put Washington on the board.Winless in September, Vogelsong returned to his top post-season form. Pitching for the first time since Sept. 26 after going 0-4 in five outings last month, the 37-year-old journeyman allowed two hits in 5 2-3 solid innings.Vogelsong has not allowed more than one earned run in five post-season starts, winning Games 2 and 6 of the 2012 NLCS and Game 3 in a World Series sweep of the Tigers.Thats as clutch as it comes, Pence said. New Zealand captain Jesse Bromwich says his team will be aiming to win the Four Nations for sidelined team-mate Thomas Leuluai. The unlucky Leuluai, who is returning to Wigan next season, will be watching Sundays final against Australia at Anfield from the stands after suffering a double fracture of his jaw in the Kiwis 18-18 draw with Scotland in Workington last Friday.Leuluai, 31, who won his 37th cap against the Bravehearts, has been dogged by injury over the last two years. He was forced to miss New Zealands 2015 Test series against England with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and was taken off 30 minutes from the end of their opening Four Nations clash with England for a concussion assessment. Hes someone that we all look up to.Hes been around for years but hes a solid defender, hes very loud out on the park and hes going to be sorely missed. That should give us more motivation, playing for Tommy who wont be able to be there.Hes still with the squad but hes eating out of a straw at the moment, which is unfortunate. But hes in good spirits and hes still happy to be around the camp. Australia captain Cameron Smith and New Zealand skipper Jesse Bromwich with the Four Nations trophy Leuluai, who cut short his second stint with New Zealand Warriors to return to England for family reasons, has been given a 10-week recovery period by Wigan so should be fit for the start of the new Super League season in February. In the meantime, New Zealand coach David Kidwell is expected to switch second rower Tohu Harris to partner Shaun Johnson in the halves against the Kangaroos rather than bring in rookie stand-off Te Maire Martin for his first full cap.Weve a couple of options there, Bromwich said. He hasnt told us what hes going to do yet but all the young boys have been training really well so everyones put their hand up for the team this week.Forwards Jason Taumalolo and Kevin Proctor are sure to return after being rested against the Bravehearts and Bromwich is particularly looking forward to the former making an impact after his outstanding year for the Cowboys in the NRL.He makes a big difference with our attack, Bromwich said. Winnipeg Jets 5 Colorado Avalanche 4 (OT) (Jets 32-30-9, Home 17-14-6) – The game was the final in the five-game season series between the two teams, with every game being decided by one goal, four of them needing extra time. The win moved the Jets to within four points of Phoenix (Coyotes home to Florida Thursday) and two points of ninth-place Dallas (Dallas in Philadelphia Thursday). Jets next play Saturday at home to Carolina (TSN 1290), before heading out of a five-game road trip that starts in Dallas Monday (TSN Jets, TSN 1290). The Jets started the day with news that Dustin Byfuglien would miss the game with a lower-body injury, and in warm-up had Zach Bogosian go down with an upper-body injury, forcing Paul Postma who was to be a healthy scratch to scramble and get dressed in time for the opening period. Despite no warm up Postma recorded his first two points of the season. Eric Tangradi went on the Olli Jokinen-Blake Wheeler line in place of Byfuglien and scored his third of the year. The Avs scored the opening goal 20 seconds in, Ryan OReilly putting one in off the skate of Bryan Little. But 2:55 later that line got the goal back, Andrew Ladd with his 20th from Little and Jacob Trouba. Eric Tangradi put the Jets in front banging home a goal-mouth pass from Wheeler, with Jokinen also drawing an assist. But on a delayed penalty against the Jets, Gabe Landeskog beat Al Montoya off a rebound to send the teams to the dressing rooms tied 2-2. Shots were 12-8 Colorado. Evander Kane with his 16th put the Jets in front, scoring off a great redirect pass from Devin Setoguchi. Postma picked up his first point of the season on the goal. But the Avs again tied the game, with Nick Holden scoring with 31 seconds left in the period. Jets outshot the Avs 11-5 in the second but only managed one past Reto Berra, making his Avalanche debut, but it was the third time this season Berra has faced the Jets, the previous meetings coming when he was with the Calgary Flames. It was much the same in the third, with the Jets getting a power play goal from Ladd to again take the lead. Wheeler and Toby Enstrom drew assists. For Ladd it was his 21st of the season and franchise-leading 67th as a Jet. For Enstrom it was his 200th NHL assist. But yet again the Avs came back. Cody McLeod with his third of the year on a two-on-one break made it 4-4 and that is the way regulation ended. Shots in the third were 8-7 Avs. So with each team assured a point, it was off to overtime. For the Jets it was the sixth time in the last 12 games they have gone to extra time. Wheeler ended it with his 24th of the year, assists to Postma and Enstrom. Wheeler outwaited Berra and had room after Berra anticipated a pass and left the side of the net open. It was Wheelers second overtime winner this season, both against Colorado. In five games against the Avs Wheeler has gone 5-5-10. He also has a franchise-leading 164 points as a Jet, and is now 1-7-8 in the last four games, 2-13-15 in the last 15 games, 9-19-28 in the last 27 games. Enstrom is now 1-5-6 in his last four games. Final shots were 27 apiece. It was the Jets 39th one-goal game of the season. Jets are 4-4-4 in the last 12. Trouba for the 14th time this season led the Jets in ice time at 24:17, while for the second straight game Ladd led in shots on goal with six. Jokinen and Little each took 23 face-offs, Jokinen winning 12, Little 11. It was a season high in ice time for Tangradi at 17:07, and also for Eric ODell at 15:39. He has been over 15 minutes in each of his last three games. Jets are now 13-7-4 under Paul Maurice with 11 games remaining, four at home. Post-game Maurice talked about not being able to hold the lead. "It didnt feel like that over the course of the game, it wasnt a matter of getting the lead, sit back and let them come. Being able to control yourself mentally with the magnitude of the game, that when one goes in on you being able to bounce back. "You saw it in our captain, who gave up a goal on their first shift and thats their assignment," continued Maurice. "And then the next shift go out and come back and score. That leadership is important on the bench and that tone was set early." Maurice said he expects Bogosian in the lineup Saturday and there is also a chance Byfuglien, Jim Slater and Ondrej Pavelec may be ready for Saturday as well. Fake Orioles Jerseys . This week topics include the new and improved John Gibbons, the new home plate collision rules and Jon Singletons controversial contract. 1. John Gibbons is not getting a lot of ink, but he is managing a first place club and hes not simply handing in a line-up card and leaving it to the players. Can you compare the current John Gibbons with the previous version of Gibbons that managed the Toronto Blue Jays to disappointment? Being a major league manager is a vey difficult job. How do you motivate multimillionaires to perform to the best of their abilities? It is not uncommon to wonder if a manager is managing better when his team is playing better. Everybody looks smarter when the team is winning. The same moves that a manager made with a losing team may work when the players are playing better. Is that better managing? I guess so. Alex Anthopolous brought John Gibbons back for a second stint as Jays manager because of the familiarity and comfort he had with him. As a young GM, Anthopolous wanted a manager whom he could trust and whom could help develop young players at the big league level. The 2013 Jays went 74-88. They started the season with great expectations, but injuries and underperformance crushed their year. Gibbons did all he could to hold things together, but as the season progressed, the losses mounted. The offence and defence struggled early on without Jose Reyes. Despite any efforts, no one could replace Reyes. Then, Jose Bautista was lost for the last month-and-a-half of the season. If a team loses its stars for months at a time, they are likely to struggle, especially if they dont have much margin for error. Gibbons did a great job in building a bullpen despite the second-worst starting rotation in the majors. This season, so much is going right and Gibbons looks smarter. He is working the match-up to his benefit using platoons when necessary. He is seemingly pulling pitchers at the right time and picking the right relievers for the necessary situations. He has worked around injuries at the closers role. When he puts the shift on for pull hitters, the opposition seems to hit it into the teeth of the defense. He shifted Brett Lawrie from third to second and handled the emotions that came with it. He is doing a heckuva job. The Xs and Os in baseball are not always that complicated. The situation often dictates the appropriate move. Where managers make their money is in creating an environment where players are held accountable and can thrive. This is where Gibbons has made his most progress. And to think there was a time when Gibbons was with the Mets and I thought he was too calm and too nice. I worried he didnt have the bite in him that managers sometimes need. He proved me wrong in his first stint, as he had a few run-ins with players and more than a few with umpires. He is calmer this time around. He is more mature. He is in control of his emotions much better now. He handles adversity with patience and ease. I dont anticipate any Shea Hillebrand and Ted Lilly-like issues now. I actually think the review system that is in place now has also helped Gibbons immensely. He doesnt have to lose his cool when he feels wronged by umpires anymore. He can just challenge the call and hope to have it overturned. This has helped him keep the environment intense without building tension. Edwin Encarnacion got off to a slow start this season, but because Gibbons had created an environment, starting last year, that allowed for progress, not perfection, it allowed Encarnacion to work out his issues and now he is thriving. The Jays are flying a bit under the radar and so is their manager. I believe teams take on the personality of their manager. The Jays personality is tough, aggressive, hard-nosed, intense, consistent and resilient. I believe in taking advantage of second chances. So does John Gibbons. 2. Oakland As left fielder Yoenis Cespedes made a great throw this week to nail a Los Angeles Angels runner at the plate, his league leading 8th outfield assist. It was a nice demonstration of the new play at the plate rules, with Derek Norris just barely having his foot in front and applying the tag without fear of getting hammered. What are your thoughts on how it is working so far and are any tweaks required based on what you have seen? And who had the greatest outfield arm youve ever seen? When the Commissioners Office announced the new home plate collision rules, I thought they got it exactly right. They instituted rules that disallow baserunners to attack a catcher when he isnt blocking the plate and disallow a catcher from blocking the plate without the ball. These eliminated the unnecessary contact at the plate. Major League Baseball could make an instructional video for all teams to view of the play at the plate when Yoenis Cespedess laser throw from left field cut down Howie Kendrick. As catcher Derek Norris left the plate uncovered while he waited for the ball to arrive. Kendrick headed for the open plate as he should have, going in feet first. Norris caught the strong throw and applied the tag. No one was injured and we now remember the great throw and not an injury acquired by unnecessary contact at the plate. Baseball got this one right. It is a perfectly crafted rule. Cespedes certainly showed tremendous arm strength on the throw to the plate. He showed off a bit more the next night when he gunned down Albert Pujols trying to advance to third after having misplayed the ball in the left field corner. Cespedes is a five-tool player. He has average to well-above average speed, arm strength, fielding, hitting for average and power. Great arm strength is not as common as it once was. Nowadays, young player learn baseball more in batting cages than in pickup games on a field. Todays players dont long toss and stretch out their arms like they used to do. The best outfield throwing arms I have ever seen belong to Hall of Famer Andre Dawson and former Boston Red Sox right fielder Dwight Evans. I remember Dawson catching a fly ball at the warning track and the third base coach holding the runner out of respect. I remember being a kid at Tiger Stadium in Detroit and seeing Dwight Evans climb the right field wall and rob a home run and then rifle a throw to the plate to cut down the runner tagging from third. Usually outfielders with great arms dont lead the league in outfield assists because base coaches know not to challenge them. Look for Cespedes to get fewer opportunities to cut down runners after this past weeks highlights. Its a shame because it is really exciting but you cant blame the base coaches for putting up the stop sign.dddddddddddd 3. Last week, Jon Singleton got a long-term deal from the Houston Astros before taking a big league swing. As a former GM, what are your thoughts about that strategy from the teams perspective? The Astros made a calculated decision about Jon Singleton. They weighed the risk and the reward of signing him to a multi-year deal before he ever saw a major league pitch. They considered the cost and the benefit of committing significant money to a still unproven player. In the 1990s, the Cleveland Indians were among the first teams to sign their young players to multi-million dollar long-term deals. They bought the players out of their arbitration years and a free agent year or two when possible. The players liked the deals because they got lifetime financial security early in their career and the team got a bit of a discount than if the players negotiated for contracts from year to year. Small market teams have to be creative in retaining their young players because, if not, they end up on the New York Yankees. Small market teams cant afford power in the free agent market. Power bats and power arms are the most expensive commodities in baseball. Smaller market teams need to develop their own power on their roster. When they finally get it, they need to be creative to afford it and keep it. The Astros see Singleton as a power hitter in their lineup for years to come. They realize that the young man came from very little money and might be inclined to jump at a shot at security. So they approached his agent and made a deal. The young man is guaranteed $10 million for a five-year contract. It could be worth as much as $35 million if the options get exercised on the back end of the deal. Singleton gave the Astros a discount on the contract to get security today. He may have left as much as $20 million on the table if he becomes the home-run hitter that his potential indicates. I like this deal from the Astros perspective. It is a worthwhile risk to commit the $10 million to save the $20 million that was left on the table. I understand why other players might be upset by this deal. Baltimore Orioles pitcher, Bud Norris, a former Astro, chastised Singleton, for taking a deal so much below market. He said it was selfish of Singleton to take such a club favorable deal because it will put a drag on salaries. There is no doubt that Singleton and his agent made this deal against the unions advice. The MLBPA wants every player to maximize every dollar in every contract. It is nice to see a young player and his agent doing what is right for them and not everyone else. His so-called selfishness may prove to be unselfish if it allows the Astros to keep or sign other players. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Both Singleton and the Astros see green and think it is beautiful. - The Baseball Hall of Fame turned 75-years-old this week. Happy Birthday! The museum in Cooperstown, New York is a place where the Baseball Writers Association of America has determined candidates be recognized. The criteria? Eligible candidates names need to appear on 75 per cent of all ballots cast. Writers are asked to consider candidates “on the basis of playing ability, sportsmanship, character, their contribution to the teams on which they played and to baseball in general.” These criteria have been applied in considering players for decades. Almost all of the games great players are recognized in the Hall of Fame. For the longest time, the Hall did not include many of the great Negro League players who were unable to participate in major league baseball. That has been rectified as many Negro League players have finally gotten their due. The BBWAA doesnt know what to do with the steroid era. They need guidance. Some writers vote for players who have used PEDs and some dont. Some writers dont vote for players based upon guilt by association or speculation, even when there is no failed drug test. The Hall is a museum. The definition of museum is "a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited." In other words, a museum should document history. So the Baseball Hall of Fame is a museum to document the history of the game. Isnt the steroid era part of the history of the game? The hang-up that writers and some baseball fans have with the steroid era is that the stats and numbers may not be real. How should the numbers be compared to those of previous eras? Stats and performance have been enhanced forever in baseball for one reason or another. When Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs, he never had a single at bat against an African American pitcher. He didnt face many of the best pitchers playing baseball at the time because of segregation. Werent his numbers enhanced? There was a dead-ball era where the pitchers dominated and homers were hard to come by. Some part of that was because the ball itself was different. When the equipment changed, performance was enhanced. The pitching mounds were lowered in 1969 and offensive numbers improved. This certainly enhanced performance, yet writers have not been confused about its impact on the Hall. Most of the news stadiums built in recent years have benefited offence. They are hitters parks with very little foul territory giving a distinct advantage to offensive players. This has certainly given players an advantage, yet no one factors it in their Hall considerations. Performance has been enhanced forever just in different ways. Some say that the steroid era players enhanced their performance by cheating. I understand that may be distasteful. So why is Gaylord Perry in the Hall of Fame? He is celebrated for his use of a spitball. He violated the rules to gain an advantage. It enhanced his performance. Baseball writers voted for him anyway. Baseball has now banned amphetamines ("greenies" and "red juice"). These drugs fall under the heading of drugs of abuse and not performance enhancement drugs, but have no doubt they were used over the years to enhance performance. Playing 162 games in 181 days is a real grind. Many of the players currently in the Hall of Fame used greenies to recover and focus from game to game. Many of these same players are the ones who cast stones at todays cheaters who use steroids. That is the pot calling the kettle black. The Hall of Fame needs to instruct its voters on how to handle the steroid era. This era of baseball needs to be accurately documented just like every other performance-enhanced era. Why not do it now? You are never too old to change, Hall of Fame! ' ' '

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Oregon coach Mark Helfrich said Saturday the suspension of wide receiver Darren Carrington wont be a distraction for the Ducks as they prepare for Mondays College Football Playoff championship game. Helfrich, speaking at media day on Saturday morning, wouldnt divulge details of Carringtons suspension, reportedly a penalty for failing an NCAA administered drug test. The freshman did not make the trip to Texas for the upcoming battle with Ohio State. It will not be a distraction, said Helfrich, who politely asked reporters to move on when pressed about the situation. Ill confirm its an NCAA policy that is in play here ... thats all were going to talk about. Various media outlets on Friday night reported that Carrington tested positive for marijuana. Distractions are distractions if you let them be, Helfrich stated. How you manage those things is what matters most and our guys have managed them very well. Carrington caught seven passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns in Oregons 59-20 rout of Florida State in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day and posted 37 receptions for 704 yards and four scores on the season. Its tough for sure, hes a great playmaker for us, said Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. But we rotate so many guys. So for us its the next man up and well be ready to go. The Ducks are already thin at receiver. Freshman wide receiver Devon Allen injured his knee on the opening kickoff of the Rose Bowl and tight end Pharaoh Brown has been sidelined for several games due to a leg injury. Its just like any other position, said Helfrich about dealing with the loss of key players. Weve been tested in that realm, for whatever reason, and our guys have stepped up. Allen tallied 41 catches for 684 yards and seven scores, while Brown recorded 25 receptions for 420 yards and found the end zone six times. New York Mets Pro Shop . Arizona purchased the contract of righty reliever Chaz Roe from Triple-A Reno on Monday. Cahill was struck by a line drive in his start on June 19 and was hit hard in his next two outings. Manager Kirk Gibson says Cahill has shifted his arm angle aand thinks its because hes been compensating for the hip.dddddddddddd But Cahill has struggled for about six weeks. Meine lieblings Gedichte :

will mich zudecken mit Blüten so rot.

Feuer brennt in meiner Seele,

Tote Augen, leere Blicke,
heißes Blut an meinen Händen.

Rosen, die vom Himmel fallen,
Dornen, die ich spür im Herz.
Mein Körper leidet Höllenqualen,
die Seele ist erfüllt von Schmerz.

Wie ein Vogel ohne Flügel,
einsam und das Herz in Ketten,
fühl ich tief in meiner Seele,
nichts und niemand kann mich retten.

DENN OHNE DICH IST ALLES LEER !

HAT MEIN FÜRST FÜR MICH GESCHRIEBEN !

Gefallene Engel

Sie waren Engel
für jeden Menschen da,
immer auf der Seite des Lichts,
kämpften um jede Seele,
gaben Ihnen wieder Hoffnung,
und glaubten man vergießt sie nicht.

Sie ließen niemanden alleine,
glaubten immer an das gute,
das jeder von uns in sich hat.
waren da für jeden,
mit der Kraft der Liebe,
und vertrauten dieser Macht.

Doch Sie wurden verraten,
von den Menschen , denen Sie vertraut,
durch Hass, Missgunst und Neid,
von den selben Menschen gestoßen,
in die finsteren Tiefen der Nacht,
für die Sie immer waren bereit.

Ihre Flügel wurden gebrochen,
sie haben Tränen geweint,
doch wollten sich nicht zur Ruhe betten,
drum standen Sie wieder auf,
sind wieder bereit, denn hier im dunkeln,
sind noch viele Seelen zu retten.

Mann nennt Sie jetzt gefallenen Engel,
doch Ihre Flügel werden heilen,
denn so lange sich Menschen noch Quälen,
werden Sie weiter kämpfen,
mit der Kraft der Liebe,
um alle verlorenen Seelen.

Meine Welt

Kann deine Schmerzen fühlen,
ich schaue in dein Herz.
Ich seh`s in deinen Augen,
Ich nehme dir den Schmerz.

Kann deine sehnsucht spüren,
reich mir deine Hand.
Schenk mir dein vertrauen,
Ich bring dich in ein Land.

Ins Land der Schwarzen Rosen,
wo keine Dornen sind.
Ins Land des weißen Lichtes,
bring ich dich geschwind.

Das Land der schwarzen Rose,
wo engelstränen glühn.
Wo Engel manchmal weinen,
wo Blumen nie verblühn.

Das Land des weißen Lichtes,
wo engelstränen glühn,
wo Rosen ohne Dornen,
im Meer der Engelstränen blühn.

Schenk mir deine seele,
auf Schwingen trag ich dich.
Ins Land der schwarzen Rose,
ins Land des weißen Lichts.

Wo Blühtenblätter zart,
im Wind der Engel wiegen.
wo keine Dornen sind,
und rote Herzen segeln.

Das Land der schwarzen Rose,
wo engelstränen glühn.
Wo Engel manchmal weinen,
wo Blumen nie verblühn.

Das Land des weißen Lichtes,
wo engelstränen glühn,
wo Rosen ohne Dornen,
im Meer der Engelstränen blühn.

Das Land der schwarzen Rose,
wo engelstränen glühn.
Wo Engel manchmal weinen,
wo Blumen nie verblühn.

Das Land des weißen Lichtes,
wo engelstränen glühn,
wo Rosen ohne Dornen,
im Meer der Engelstränen blühn.

Glasherz

Mein gläsern´ Herz
Pumpt schwarzes Blut
Der tiefe Hass
Gibt Lebensglut

Um mich scheint alles and´re klein
Bin stets in schwarze Nacht gehüllt
Mit Bosheit, Hass und Wut erfüllt
Ich bin der Tod, ich bin Gericht
Ich höre deine Schreie nicht
Ich bin der Albtraum, der dich fasst
Ich bin, was du am meisten hasst

Und doch bin ich dem Tod geweiht
Wie es vor Jahren prophezeit
Denn wenn mein gläsern´ Herze bricht
Hilft mir all meine Stärke nicht

Schwarzes Blut in meinen Venen
Doch im Herz bin ich allein
Was wisst ihr schon von meinem Sehnen
Einmal ganz ein Mensch zu sein
Der stumme Tod ist mein Gefährt
Er wendet sich nie gegen mich
Mich tötet weder Axt noch Schwert
Solange, bis mein Glasherz bricht

So wand´re ich in Dunkelheit
Im grauen Dunst der Ewigkeit
Und falle doch vor dem Gericht
Am Tag, an dem das Glas zerbricht
Die Hölle wartet, nicht das Licht
Ich fühle euren Frohsinn nicht
Denn wie ich grad entstanden bin
So schwinde ich auch schon dahin...

Schwarzes Blut in meinen Venen
Doch im Herz bin ich allein
Was wisst ihr schon von meinem Sehnen
Einmal ganz ein Mensch zu sein
Der stumme Tod ist mein Gefährt
Er wendet sich nie gegen mich
Mich tötet weder Axt noch Schwert
Solange, bis mein Glasherz bricht

GOTHIC IN EUROPA
